[Syvash (Sea of Decay)]
This original ink color, extracted from coordinates 46.13594, 33.91955, recreates the Sea of Decay, a shallow tidal flat stretching along the western coast
of the Sea of Azov. Its deepest point is said to be about 3 meters. Because it’s so shallow, there’s little circulation, and the water temperature rises in the summer. While the ocean’s normal salinity is said to be about 3.5%, the Sea of Decay’s salinity is 10 times higher, at approximately 35%. Soy sauce is said to have a salinity of about 16%, making it extremely salty. The high salinity, combined with the abnormal proliferation of algae, results in the production of beta-carotene, resulting in this color.
The SAILOR/SATELLITE CRAYON PROJECT
Ocean Fountain Pen features three colors selected from the 12 Ocean Crayon colors: “Eleuthera Island,” which recreates the ocean off the west coast of Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas; “Amami Oshima,” the color of the ocean off Amami Oshima in Japan; and “Syvash,” which recreates the rotten sea of shallow tidal flats on the western coast of the Sea of Azov at the northern end of the Black Sea. Enjoy the
fountain pen and ink that faithfully recreate the rich colors of Earth’s oceans, along with the stories of those places.
