I have a preference for portable and rugged FPs since I usually am on the go. I also write long-hand for hours, so I need relatively lightweight FPs. Plus, I am partial towards blue shades. Kaweco AL Sport Mint Blue FP happens to tick off all of those leanings of mine and it is not too pricey. When I finally saw this in person and held it between my fingers, I loved how it felt and the visuals – the understated color that changes with how the light reflects on it.
My only gripe is how underwhelming the performance of the nib, an EF. I used to have the Kaweco Frosted Sport FP Light Blueberry with an EF nib and through it, I realized that I love the EF of the Kaweco – it writes smoothly and has just the right nib size for my hurried script writing. Unfortunately I dropped that one and ruined the nib and I could find no nib replacement for Kaweco Frosted Sport in the PH. So I decided to upgrade to a metal Kaweco Sport FP, but this EF nib I got is scratchy, skips a lot, and prone to hard starts even if left for exposed and idle for only 30 seconds (which is usually the case when I am studying, working, or reading documents and note-taking at the same time – yes I still do it the traditional way).
I have only been using this for a 2-3 weeks. I’ve been hoping, praying that somehow the nib performance improves with use. It has, a teeny weeny bit, but is still a long way off from the pleasurable writing experience I had with the EF nib of my Kaweco Frosted Sport FP. Scribe has recommended that I visit one of their physical branches to have it checked, but with the quarantine still in place, I am not as mobile and wary still of going out to the malls. So until then, I would have to stick out with this one with the hopes that the nib improves on its own with constant use.
Regardless of the state of this FP, Scribe never failed to deliver excellent service and has been prompt, patient and kind in responding to all my queries. Thank you Scribe.🙏
